In 1961, the first California Cadet Corps Summer
Camp was held in the high in the Sierra Nevada Mountains at Camp Arcade (now
named Camp Winthers) owned and operated by the San Juan Unified School District.
Read an original story about the 1962 Cadet Encampment. The photo
below with the parachute sail was used on the boat trip mentioned in the story.
Read a second story about
Initiative and
Responsibilities of Cadet Field Grade Officers at summer camp. Also to get a flavor about the Summer Camp in 1962, read the
original summer camp documents saved and
generously provided by Robert Cowan a Sergeant from Cadet Roseville High School
who was in attendance. Included are Summer Camp Information documents,
Training Schedules, Press Releases, attendance list, a ration card and SOP,
General Order Number One, and a newspaper article about the camp.
